as promised, we are ending our story of Natalie and Mark and their "Alternate Proposal" today! While Mark is covering significant aspects of their relationship that he thinks will be important going forward and Natalie "seems" to be agreeing with him................I get the feeling that she's not really listening all that intently! As a matter of fact, she seems to have something entirely different on her mind!
Mom gave her ebony hairbrush to my "brand spankin' new" husband as a wedding present, and he applied it vigorously to my bare bottom that very night, letting me know in no uncertain terms my place in our household and setting the tone of our next thirty years of happy marriage. So this 'toon brings back many happy, if painful, memories. Thanks, Phil, for a marvelously insightful tale.

Deletei really loved your comments! i particularly liked your description of your new husband applying the hairbrush "vigorously" to your bare bottom..............LOL. as a new husband, i do think that it was appropriate of him to be enthusiastic about this task. what struck me most, though, was how it set the tone for the next 30 years of happy marriage. to me, that speaks volumes! i have a hunch that the pain of that first night has long since faded leaving only the happy memories and i'm really happy that my toon brought those back for you. your comments brought a big grin to my face. thanks, phil
To me there is always something good and healthy about a mother-in-law telling his new son-in-law that her daughter is a beautiful and kind-hearted girl, but that he will need a hairbrush to make her behave. And when he even gives her the hairbrush, any man would be a fool not to take her advice. And I also like when sensiblegirls like Maria White feel that that hairbrush swpanking their bare bottom on the wedding night has done their marriage a lot of good.
